MARGAO
Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday said that none of the kings who ruled the States in the country had ever crossed the sea or the country’s borders to conquer other countries.
The governor also patted the Brahma Kumaris for their yeoman service in moulding the society, especially the younger generation to be free from all sorts of evils.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the 88th Mahashivratri Festival 2024 at the SGPDA grounds, Margao on Friday, the governor further said the work carried out by the Brahma Kumaris is a classic example of the ancient tradition of Bharat.
“Yoga was widely introduced in the world around nine years ago. There was opposition initially and only 13-14 countries accepted Yoga. Nine years later, around 164 countries across the world have accepted Yoga. Even the United Nations is promoting Yoga. One by one, we will be able to achieve the goal of promoting ancient traditions, not to extend our country’s rule in other countries," he said.
The festivities promise a rich tapestry of experiences, including 108 Shivling Darshan in water, Bhisma Pitamah and Arjun Yuddha (a moving action display) on the theme of Karma Philosophy, stop animal cruelty (another moving action piece), de-addiction (yet another moving action), biodiversity (moving action), save trees (moving action, focusing on the ill effects of de-forestation), moving statues of cricketers and footballers on the theme “fuel your dreams and not your addictions”, highlighting the positive effects of non-consumption of alcohol, cigarette and drugs which has helped many great sportsmen to explore their performance and achieve success in sports, yogic farming, meditation kaksha and many more.
