Government surveyors engaged by the South Goa District Collector, Swapnil Naik on Wednesday surveyed the land acquired by the Margao Municipal Council for the Muslim kabrastan at Sonsodo following claims that the authorities have acquired an adjoining piece of land owned by the Raia fabrica.
During the survey carried out by the surveyors in the presence of Margao municipal engineer Vishant Naik, representatives of the Muslim community as well as NGO Felix Dias and local residents opposing the burial grounds were present at the site.
After the day-long exercise, the surveyors will compile the data and cross-check with the available records. If required, they will make their presence felt again at the site to verify the records.
MMC engineer Vishant Naik informed that the municipality had acquired the land in question after proper demarcation. He, however, said that since many an eyebrow have been raised about the demarcation of the properties adjoining the acquired land, a fresh demarcation and survey was ordered by the district collector.
