Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said the State government plans to advertise about 5,000 jobs in January and February, adding that the process would be started shortly.
Speaking after inaugurating a Self Employment Awareness camp during the ‘Sankhali Mahotsav 2019’ at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali, Sawant, however, said Goan youth only want government jobs but it was impossible to provide jobs to every youth.
“At present, there are about 70,000 government employees and the State plans to advertise about 5,000 jobs in January and February. This process will start shortly. Over the next two years, around 7,000 new jobs will be available,” he said.
Appealing to Goan youth to pursue jobs in the private sector, the chief minister said: “Only 15,000 Goans are employed in the private sector, while 35,000 are from outside Goa. This is very discouraging and Goan youth must opt for private jobs and abandon their “sussegad” mentality.”
“Nearly 90% of local activities have been taken over by outsiders due to the “sussegad” attitude of Goans and traditional activity has virtually vanished.”
Highlighting various schemes implemented by the government specially to the youths to set up their own enterprise, Sawant appealed to the youth to avail benefits of the schemes and set up independent ventures, thereby employing others in their firms.
Sawant stressed the need of such awareness camps to enlighten and help people from remote areas to know about various government schemes to start one’s own venture.
Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said such awareness camps would enlighten the youth about various employment opportunities and help eradicate unemployment.
EDC chairman Sadanand Shet Tanavde briefed about various schemes available with the EDC, while Mayem MLA and Chairman of Goa State Horticulture Corporation Pravin Zantye, EDC Managing Director K V Ballikar and EDC Vice Chairman Sanjay Satardekar also spoke on the occasion.
Ankita Anand IAS, Councillors of Sankhali Muncipal Council and sarpanchas from various panchayats were present on the occasion.
The Sankhali Mahotsav 2019, a three-day event is organised by Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali and Goa Youth Club Federation Sankhali.
Various stalls have been set up during the three-day mahotsav, which includes career guidance workshops for youth and a cultural events.
At the inaugural session, Self Employment Awarness Camp was organised by EDC, in which the Goa Tribal Employment Generation Programme Scheme and Chief Minister Rojgar Yojana Scheme were highlighted.
