Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the 100 percent success at SSC exams and medals won by students of Sanjay School at the Special Olympics in the USA last year had prompted the State government to consider a special cell in the Social Welfare department for special children.

He was speaking at a function organised by Sanjay School at Porvorim to felicitate students for securing 100 percent results at the SSC board examinations.

“Achieving 100 percent results is by no means a small achievement. It requires great efforts on the part of students, parents and teachers to achieve this feat,” he said.

“The government alone can’t do everything for these special children. It is the duty of every segment of the society to join hands with the government to work for the betterment of these children. Everybody has got their priorities. But helping these children should be considered as top priority by one and all,” he added.

Goa Board Chairman J R Rebello said the students of Sanjay School, their parents and teachers deserve compliments for securing 100 percent results at SSC examinations. “Performance of the students, both in studies and sports activities, warrants that this school needs to be elevated to a higher level. The teachers of Sanjay School deserve special thanks for assisting the Goa Board in preparing a curriculum for these special children,” said Rebello.

Secretary for Education Virendra Kumar also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Sanjay Centre for Special Education chairman Guruprasad Pawaskar welcomed the gathering while Scarlet Gonsalves compered the programme. School Headmaster Tatu Kudalkar proposed the vote of thanks.
