PANAJI
The historic and heritage ground-plus-one 'Fazenda' building behind the Old Secretariat in the capital city will in the near future no longer boast of holding the State government's purse strings.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's government is planning to build a new edifice for the directorate of accounts at Porvorim -- Lekha Bhavan.

Sawant is slated to lay the foundation stone for this new building on Tuesday next, the Republic Day.

The construction of the building will be executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) on a plot admeasuring 5,300 square metres.

Lekha Bhavan will be a four-storeyed building with a 10,670 square metres of built-up area, including a 300-capacity training hall, canteen and a bank. It is divided into three building sections and two service core, connected by a central corridor and lobby. The canteen, bank and ATM are provided on the ground level, while the training hall is located at the uppermost level. A modular approach has been adopted for planning within the departments, mainly driven by the flow of interaction required between the main officers and assisting officers.

The Rs 38-odd crore project has been bagged by M/s Decor Home (India) Pvt Ltd with M/s UC J Architecture & Environment as consultant.
