Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the government will convene a meeting with NGOs to find a solution to the stray dog menace on Goa’s beaches after a British tourist was reportedly mauled by a pack of stray dogs at Cavelossim beach in Salcete.
Sawant made the statement in the Goa Legislative Assembly while responding to concerns raised by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas over the growing presence of stray dogs along several beaches in Salcete.
Viegas said the recent incident, in which a British tourist was attacked by stray dogs during an early morning walk on the beach, has created fear and anxiety among residents, tourists and members of the tourism fraternity.
He pointed out that similar attacks have been reported in recent months, including cases where children and senior citizens visiting the beaches were mauled and injured.
The MLA warned that such incidents pose a serious threat to public safety and could damage Goa’s reputation as a safe tourism destination.
He urged the government to take urgent steps to address the problem and ensure the safety of residents as well as visitors to the State’s beaches.
