Cortalim witnessed a colourful celebration of Goa’s traditional Shigmo festival on March 8, when the constituency hosted its first Shigmotsav parade. Cultural groups took part in the event while large crowds of residents lined the streets to watch the celebrations.

The parade was held at Bandantulo Khuris along NH-66 in Cortalim from 3.30 pm onwards. It featured Chitrarath tableaux, Romtamel performances and fancy dress presentations that highlighted traditions linked to the Shigmo festival.

The procession was flagged off by Cortalim MLA Anton Vas in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, ZP member Merciana Mendes, Cortalim Sarpanch Ujwala Naik and others.

Several local groups and artists participated in the parade. Traditional drums, folk dances and decorated floats moved along the route as residents gathered to watch and cheer the performers.

Speaking on the occasion, Anton Vas said the Shigmotsav was organised following requests from residents who wanted to see the parade in their own constituency instead of travelling to other towns. The event was organised by the Cortalim Kala Kendra in collaboration with the Cortalim Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti. Organisers also announced cash prizes for competitions in Romtamel performances, Chitrarath tableaux and fancy dress presentations.
