Amid concern over minor damages to the Athletic Stadium at Bambolim post Bryan Adams concert, the State government has decided to recover the damage cost from the event organizers.

Apparently, the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has collected a security deposit of Rs 30 lakhs from the organizers -- Eva Live and Twinspin Sports.

Music legend Adams concluded his India tour with a final performance in Goa on December 17. However, the concert left certain parts of the stadium facilities in bad shape, especially the civil work adjoining the running and jumping tracks. The Authority has now urged Synthetic Track Expert to examine it.

Speaking to The Goan, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said that if there are any damages to the stadium or its facilities, then the same would be recovered from the security deposits. “As per the contract, fearing possible damage in such a mega concert, we take three times more deposit, to undertake the necessary repairs,” he said.

“If the cost goes beyond the amount that is collected in form of security deposit, then the same would be recovered from the organizers,” he said adding ‘we see that sports facilities are not damaged or are restored to its original status’.

According to the sources, the civil work adjacent to the tracks has been damaged and to assess the track condition, a synthetic track expert has been called. “The expert will visit the stadium either today or tomorrow,” sources said.

Sources said that SAG will see that the stadium is restored to its original condition.
