Govt to take up new, pending projects in next one year: CM

MAPUSA
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that eight months were lost due to Covid pandemic, but assured to take up all pending and even new projects in the State in the next one year.

He also assured to take up the Mapusa bus-stand work first and the municipal market refurbishing work soon after.

“The initial eight months of the pandemic have had a telling effect on government treasury. That is why we could not take up a lot of developmental projects including the Mapusa bus-stand and the municipal market. We will continue to take up pending works in the next year and also introduce new ones. We have started to shore up the finances. The Centre will also help us,” Sawant said.

The chief minister was interacting with the media on the sidelines of a private function in the Mapusa market.

Sawant said that after Panaji, the name of Mapusa pops up in the minds of the people and it was crucial to complete all pending projects in the town.

“In future, after Mopa airport happens, Mapusa will be viewed in a different angle and therefore the development of the town is crucial,” he said.

Interestingly, former MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza had recently informed that the finance department had rejected the Rs 20 crore allotted for the refurbishing of Mapusa market as it was not a revenue-generating project.

The chief minister also informed that identification of place for Ravindra Bhavan was going on and once that is finalised, the work on the project will start.

He also informed that the government will develop the two new police districts with the existing manpower at the police stations.

The government had recently announced the formation of two police districts “ one in Mapusa and the other in Ponda.
