Govt to train youth who passed 8th Std as guides for tourists

MARGAO

Asserting his firm stance against illegal touts, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte announced plans to train youth with a minimum of an eighth-grade qualification to become skilled tourist guides, aiming to promote Goa effectively.

Speaking at the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa’s event in Cavelossim, Khaunte emphasised the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicate illegal touting in both North and South Goa.

He urged politicians not to politicise the issue of airports, highlighting that both Mopa and Dabolim cater to an equal number of passengers.

Underlining the concept of Tourism 2.0, Khaunte stressed the importance of tapping into emerging and international markets to enhance tourism in Goa.

“As per the central government scheme, tourist guide training is imparted to candidates with 12th std qualification. We are reworking the requirement. We are  trying to impart the training to candidates with eighth-grade qualification, who can be trained in fluency in foreign language, including English language and is made aware of the history and culture of Goa. If we do this, these guides can be the best brand ambassadors of Goa. We will launch this programme after the election code of conduct is lifted,” he said.
