Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced a new employment initiative aimed at providing job opportunities to unemployed youth who have completed education up to Class 8–10.
The scheme, to be implemented under the Deendayal Gramin Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), will offer three and six-month training programmes designed to prepare candidates for private sector jobs.
Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat, Sawant said that 70 per cent of the participants in these training programmes are expected to secure employment upon completion.
The programme will be conducted free of cost at 17 centres across Goa and trainees will be provided with a stipend of Rs 160 per day. So far, 300 youth have already registered. Eligible candidates must be between 18 and 35 years of age, while women and those from SC/ST communities can apply up to the age of 45. An income certificate from the local panchayat is required for enrolment. Training will cover skills in front office operations, housekeeping, food and beverage services, and retail sales.
Sawant urged young people to take advantage of the scheme, stressing its potential to boost employability and support livelihoods.
‘Sarkar Tumchya Daari’ returns
Sawant also announced the relaunch of the Sarkar Tumchya Daari (Government at Your Door) programme, which facilitates access to State and Central government schemes.
The initiative will resume on February 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda, from 9 am to 5 pm. Similar programmes will be held across Goa in the coming months.
Sawant noted that during the earlier phase, 18–19 such events were organised, each drawing 2,000–2,500 participants, with 80 per cent expressing satisfaction. The programme will allow citizens to apply for schemes such as the Chief Minister’s Employment Scheme, Start-up Scheme, 'Mhaje Ghar', while also providing necessary certificates on the spot.
