MARGAO:
“I have been told by MMC Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai that the newly posted Chief Officer Deepali Naik has not signed the file to engage daily wage workers to collect waste door-to-door. If the government is trying to play politics over contentious issues such as garbage collection, we are ready to take on the government,” he said.
Sardesai warned that the people of Margao and Fatorda will be forced to take to the streets everyday from Gudi Padwa if it is found creating obstacles in the smooth running of the civic body. “If the government does not want to take the ground reality into account, we will have to show this government its place,” he said.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said the government cannot depute a part-time Chief Officer to manage the affairs of an A-class municipality such as Margao. “People of Margao and Fatorda have given a mandate to the newly elected group of councillors with certain expectations. The government will be solely responsible if it tries to put obstacles in realizing their expectations,” he said.
