Joining 956 employment exchanges in the country, the North Goa exchange has successfully integrated as part of the National Career Service (NCS) that aims to create a database of job seekers and employees.
Announcing the shift in employment exchange functioning, newly elected Labor Commissioner Swapnil Naik said the exercise would help in bettering the prospects of job seekers in getting jobs.
“Under the NCS, the service won’t just be a registry of job seekers but will be an online database of employers and employees. Goa was selected as part of the model of job mapping. Though there was delay initially, we are now on the verge of nearing completion,” he said.
As part of the NCS, the central government has included career counseling, job fairs and skill development to help decrease the unemployment numbers. The NCS will work on an online portal system where job seekers will have their details uploaded and prospective employers looking for candidates with a particular skill will be selected. The facility, which is part of the government’s focus on skills and employment generation aims to create a direct market place for workers and employers.
Naik was speaking at the launch of an employment exchange programme for the disabled. At the end of the day, there were 85 applications for registration of which three were already given jobs at the Lemon Tree Hotel.
According to statistics revealed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Goa registered a total of 5,545 employers and 1,22,240 job seekers on the online portal.
“Those that have already registered with the employment exchange will be added to the portal while those that would want to sign up would have to come to the centre with their documents and then register,” Naik said.
