8 injured as 2 buses collide at Usga

Eight passengers and a bus driver were injured, while a 10-year-old schoolgirl and a caretaker escaped unhurt, after a Bal Rath bus and a passenger bus collided with each other at Gaonkarwada-Usgao on Monday at about 7 am.

According to the police, the Bal Rath bus (GA-07-S-0542), which was proceeding from Nanuswada to Usgao, collided with the oncoming passenger bus (GA-04-T-3010), engaged with a company at Honda, at Gaonkarwada, leaving nine persons injured.
The impact of the accident was such that the cabin of the Bal Rath bus was damaged, trapping driver Shivdas Naik (60) from Bhamai Pali inside the vehicle. He was later rescued by passers by the people. The fire station personnel said the driver was rescued from the cabin before they reached the spot. The eight injured passengers were rushed to the Primary Health Center at Usgao. They were discharged after administering first aid.
Eyewitnesses informed that schoolgirl Shreya Gaonkar and caretaker Sahira Fernandes, who were in the Bal Rath bus, escaped unhurt. However, the Bal Rath bus driver sustained severe injuries and was shifted to Goa Medical College.
