Saying that any haste may bring government efforts to bail out the beleaguered bar owners to naught, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on Sunday underlined the need to evolve a right solution at the right time and protect the interests of the bar owners.
The Chief Minister has promised that the government would come out with a clear line of action on the issue in a day, on Monday, on how to go about the issue.
During his visit to the commercial capital in connection with a BJP meeting at Hotel Nanutel, Parrikar said the government has adopted a two-pronged approach, one how to implement the order and to explore the grounds to file a review petition in the Supreme Court. “The government is of the opinion that around 1100 bars can be saved by applying the 220 meters distance as envisaged by the Supreme court. As far as the remaining 2000 bars and liqour outlets are concerned, the government will find out a right solution at the right time. We will have to initiate some steps and take them to the logical conclusion”, Parrikar said, adding “We will have to save the situation at the right time and with the right reason”.
On the question of renewal of the licenses, the Chief Minister said the licenses of 1100 bars and outlets, which will be saved on account of the SC order reducing the ban length to 220 meters, will be renewed by the Excise department. “There’s no issue as far as these outlets is concerned. As far as the remaining 2000 outlets are concerned, the excise will be told not to cancel the licenses so that the owners can find a way and shift the premises elsewhere”, he said.
