Criticising the Canacona Munipal Council’s (CMC) insensitive attitude towards the garbage problem in Canacona town, Goa State Congress President Girish Chodankar said the Congress would strongly support locals in their fight for a clean environment in Canacona.

Chodankar was interacting with the protestors after extending support to the protesting Jagruk Canaconkars who are on a chain hunger strike at the CMC office since Monday.

Chodankar visited the striking members on strike and even sat with them in the verandah of the CMC building at Chaudi, to show his solidarity with activists of Jagruk Canaconkars.

Denouncing the CMC for its inconsistency in dealing with public issues, Chodankar blamed BJP for its inability to resolve issues directly concerning citizens.

“The attitude of CMC is highly deplorable and insensitive. Is this a way to work for the citizens,” asked Chodankar, while speaking with reporters.

“The CMC is controlled by the BJP, the state government is run by BJP and more importantly, the BJP is also heading the government at the Centre and its prime minister gave the ‘Swachh Bharat’ slogan. Why can’t the BJP resolve the garbage issue in Canacona,” questioned Chodankar.

“If it were not for an NGO like ‘Goenkar’ and Jagruk Canaconkars in Canacona, there would not have been any clean air to breathe in Canacona. The Congress will extend all support to Canacona citizens in their fight to ensure a clean environment in Canacona,” he said.
