GPCC vice president Sankalp Amonkar on Sunday said he filed a complaint against the BJP for installing BJP flags on houses during BJP Foundation day while the model code of conduct was in force.

Amonkar was speaking to reporters during a press conference to unveil his panel of 9 candidates in Mormugao constituency under the banner "Mormugao Warriors".

Expressing confidence that his candidates would emerge victorious, Amonkar said the name ‘Mormugao Warriors’ was chosen because having warriors was the need of the hour as many works are pending in the council.

The panel comprises former MMC chairpersons Bhavana Bhosle (ward 1), Shekhar Khadapkar (ward 2), and Nitin Chopdekar (ward 7); Ashwini Honnaverkar (ward 3), sportsman and footballer Uday Naik (ward 4), Vinnie Bhagat (ward 6), outgoing councillors Nilesh Navelkar (ward 5) and Shraddha Amonkar (ward 8) and Yogita Parsekar (ward 9).

Speaking about the complaint, Amonkar said, "For BJP foundation day, BJP karyakartas went to all the houses and installed flags while the code of conduct is in force. I appeal to the flying squad to remove the flags from the houses of the people. The BJP is also as of now luring people for government jobs and in some cases there are reports that government servants supporting the opposition are being transferred. This is a complete misuse of power. No matter what tactics the BJP uses, silent voters will get our panel elected with good margin.”

Amonkar added that it was only because of petitioners that reservations had changed ensuring women reservations in Mormugao Constituency.

"Ideally, Urban Development Minister Milind Naik has no moral right to field women candidates now and all our women candidates should have won unopposed. While we have got 33 percent women reservations that works to 3 women reserved seats, we have gone to around 60 percent reservations and placed 5 women candidates in our panel," said Amonkar.

Former MMC chairperson Nitin Chopdekar said that the banner had intellectual people and assured that if the panel was elected, the first thing that would be taken up was regularisation of houses.

"Regularisation of houses will be our first resolution that will be taken and sent to the Government, whether we are in ruling or opposition, " said Chopdekar while Khadapkar assured that the main agenda of the banner would be good governance.

"While municipal funds are transferred to GSUDA, workers are struggling for salaries. We will also take up other aspects like MMC workers salaries, reassessment of houses, etc," said Khadapkar.
