Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said that Goa is building a skilling ecosystem evolving with industry needs, as students are now turning contributors to innovation.
His remarks come against the backdrop of rising youth employability and changing career aspirations in the higher education sector. As per the department’s figures released through a press note, this year, placement rates reached 90 per cent in engineering colleges and over 89 per cent in diploma institutions, with more than 500 eligible students securing jobs through on-campus and off-campus drives.
“This rise in youth skilling and employability is the result of strategic collaboration between the government, academia, and industry. The Startup and IT Promotion Cell and the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, pioneered a model of education that goes beyond exam scores, one that focuses on creating future-ready individuals,” the minister said.
He said that many graduates are opting for higher studies, self-employment, entrepreneurship, or alternative career paths. “Over 300 graduates are choosing to pursue higher education, while many others are exploring self-employment, entrepreneurship, or alternative career paths. This signals a generation that is not just seeking jobs, but actively reskilling and future-proofing themselves in a rapidly changing, tech-driven world,” he added.
Programmes such as the Startup Yatra Bootcamp, Masterclasses, the Goa AI Mission, and BridgeAura ’25 are giving students hands-on exposure to innovation, applied learning, and problem-solving.
Colleges are also fostering entrepreneurship through events like TORQUE 2025, organised by the Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association at Goa College of Engineering, and IDEAS 3.0, hosted by Padre Conceicao College of Engineering. These platforms showcase student talent while nurturing innovation, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking.
