A group of citizens from Fatorda on Thursday went into mourning mode, literally, as they took a dig at local Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai for his act of transplanting coconut trees at the wholesale fish market after removing them from the SAG grounds, Fatorda.

Attired in black and white clothes, the group comprising of Ethel Lobo, Nelson Fernandes, Avinash Tavares, Joseph Silva, Piedade Norohna, Laurel Abranches and others claimed that almost all the coconut trees transplanted at the wholesale fish market are now dead, while blaming the MLA for the situation.

Ethel told the media that the condition of the coconut trees only goes to show that the MLA had no love for the trees. “We wonder whether the MLA had put in place a system where the trees were watered or taken care of after their transplantation. The state of affairs of the coconut trees only goes to show that the MLA has only destroyed the trees,” she said.

Congress Block president, Joseph Silva said they are mourning in the SGPDA over the state of affairs of the coconut trees. "The MLA has committed a crime by removing the trees and getting them transplanted at the market. He claims to have an Agriculture degree, but see the state of the trees. Action should be initiated against him," Silva said.
