Five men under the influence of alcohol got into an argument with a bar and restaurant owner, assaulted him and fired at his partner in Siolim on Wednesday.
Anjuna Police have arrested the man who fired from the pistol, James D’Souza (44) of Duler, Mapusa and two others. Two more accused are absconding.
The bar and restaurant owner Akshit Shetty (30) in his complaint said that James and four others entered his ‘El Patron’ restaurant at Vaddy in Siolim post mid-night and picked up an argument and assaulted him with some hard object.
They also abused him and damaged some glasses and thereafter removed a pistol and fired at his business partner Uday, the complainant said.
Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi along with Anjuna PI Prashal Desai formed a team and traced accused James D’Souza and Mohammad Sahid Maniyar (29) of Karasvaddo at Morjim, Pernem and apprehended them.
The third accused, Suraj Anupkumar Singh (19), also from Karasvaddo, who was in the process to flee from the State was nabbed at the Tivim Railway Station.
“The firearm used in the incident was a professional pistol but the owner has failed to produce documents of ownership. A round was fired at the complainant’s partner which luckily missed the target. We have booked the accused for attempt to murder,” Dalvi said.
Police have seized the pistol and recovered an empty cartridge from the restaurant site and a magazine with four live rounds.
While two accused are in police custody the third accused James has been admitted in North Goa District hospital due to high blood pressure.
Police have registered a case under Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 504, 427, 307 r/w 149 of the IPC and Section 25 of Arms Act.
Incidentally, the accused, James D’Souza, was last year arrested in a similar shooting case by Mapusa Police.
