The South Goa Collector told the Bombay High Court at Goa that it will enhance the quantity of wet waste that is being sent to the Saligao solid waste management plant by 10 metric tons per day as a stop gap arrangement to help remedy the dire situation at the Sonsodo garbage dump.
The High Court has also barred the Margao Municipal Council from issuing fresh construction licences until further orders while also directing that the work at Sonsodo be taken up on a war footing.
“We have given an affidavit in the High Court that a total of 35 tons will be taken to Saligao “ earlier 20 tons were being taken; an additional ten tons will now be sent,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday.
“The Chief Officer will have to report to the UD secretary on a day to day basis as regards the disposal of garbage. No work should stop at any point of time. It should be a continuous working situation “ these are the directions issued by the State government to the municipality. The HC has taken this order on record and has directed that the MMC will have to comply with these directions and file a compliance report on the 18th July,” Advocate General Devidas Pangam, said.
