Days of politics are over. For the next five years, we want to work with all government officials… Any party, be it BJP or Goa Forward... My team will cooperate with the government to get the works done in Anjuna,” he said. rIn the 11-member panchayat, the group of seven panchas led by Patrick Savio Almeida remained present for the meeting, while four members from the opposition camp were absent. r“Since only Patrick Savio Almeida and Pratima Govekar applied for the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively, both are declared elected unopposed,” said Futusingh Anant Shetgaonkar, Presiding Officer at the meeting. rAnjuna Panchayat was in the news after election to sarpanch and deputy was adjourned in a controversial manner on July 8 after the presiding officer on duty suddenly took ill. rLater, the government was forced to hold the election on July 17 after the group of seven panch members approached the High Court seeking direction to the government to hold the election at the earliest. rCoincidentally, Patrick Savio Almeida and Pratima Govekar swapped posts, as in 2012 Govekar was the sarpanch, while Almeida was her deputy. rGiving credit to his six members for remaining united, Sarpanch, Patrick Savio Almeida said like-minded people have come together to develop Anjuna. rHe said the group’s top priority was to make the village garbage free. r“After discussing with the group members, we have decided to give top priority to make Anjuna garbage free. We also have plans to improve all the grounds in the village,” Almeida said and added that the panchayat was also planning to build a children’s park in the village. r“If we get land, we will immediately start work on children’s park,” he said.

The uncertainty in Anjuna Panchayat ended on Monday after Patrick Savio Almeida, who led the group of seven panch members, and Pratima R Govekar were elected unopposed as the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively of Anjuna.
