PANAJI
There have been growing demands to get authorities to reopen the municipal library at St-Inez in Panaji, which has been closed since April.
"The municipal library has been closed since the last six months and this has affected all those who have been using the library,” said Anthony D’Lima, as regular reader at the library.
“Visitors have no newspapers and magazines to read. When government is spending so much on salaries of the librarian and attendants, why are there no funds for newspapers and books.”
“When the State government has reopened casinos and other businesses establishments, what is the problem in reopening the municipal library,” asked D'Lima.
While the library is closed, sources said the librarian and other staff have been kept in the municipal building and are doing municipal-related work.
Another resident said the municipal library has been an important source of information, as several newspapers and magazines are available to people.
“But it is very sad to see the state of affairs now,” the resident added.
