The Goan Seamen Association of India has called for a meeting of all seafarers and widows on July 4, at 10.30 am at GSAI office Madel, Margao, to discuss the issue with the seafarers since they received letters from Seafarers

Welfare Fund Society, Mumbai that the ex-gratia scheme will be closed from July 1, 2018.

GSAI spokesperson Dixon Vaz has said the news has created a lot of panic and stress to thousands of retired seamen and widows in

Goa. He said the Seafarers Welfare Fund Society has decided to stop the ex-gratia scheme without any prior

intimation.

He said Goan Seamen Association of India is totally rejecting this decision of the welfare fund society and will not allow such things to happen without taking the seafarers into confidence.

“We will discuss the issue with the seafarers on July 4 and will chalk out the future course of action,” he added.
