GSIDC to get new contractor for Porvorim sports complex: Khaunte

Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has said the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is in the process of finalising new contractor for the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex near Holy Family School at Socorro.

He was speaking after inaugurating the extension office of Porvorim Rising at Carrem-Socorro in the presence of Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Pednekar, President of Porvorim BJP Mandal Kishor Asnodkar, Secretary of Porvorim Rising Suraj Borkar and panch members of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca panchayats.
“Work on the multi-purpose sports complex, which will have a swimming pool, badminton court, etc. Has been held up as the contractor who was doing work passed away. The GSIDC is in the process of finalising a new contractor and it will be selected by January 2023,” said Khaunte.
“As soon as the new contractor is selected, I will ensure that the remaining work of the sports complex is completed within six months.
Khaunte said there is a demand for a cricket ground and community hall from the local youth.
“A place has been identified at Mudder-Socorro. The cricket ground will be developed in consultation with local youth and work will start within next 2-3 months.”
“The computer lab will be set up at Aradi and training programmes will be arranged especially for members of Self Help Groups and youths.”
Khaunte said the extension office of Porvorim Rising has been opened for the benefit of residents of Aradi, Carrem, Vadem and Joswado in Socorro.
“The sarpanch will be available in this office to attend to their grievances and residents should avail the benefit of this facility,” said Khaunte.
Former Sarpanch and sitting panch Sandeep Salgaonkar also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar welcomed the gathering and Gokuldas Gawde compered the programme. Sanjay Pednekar later proposed the vote of thanks.
