Panaji constituency candidate of Goa Suraksha Manch Dr Ketan Bhatikar on Monday released his manifesto for the capital city with a vision of ‘Clean Panaji, Green Panaji.’
The prominent focus of the manifesto is on resolving long-pending issues concerning Mala lake, St Inez Creek, Campal parade ground, footpaths, traffic management as well as fitness and healthcare.
Speaking at GSM office at Altinho in Panaji, Dr Bhatikar said, “The Panaji manifesto is in line with GSM’s Goa manifesto released a few days ago. I have focused on several pending issues of the capital city including infrastructural development, sports, tourism, traffic, casinos and culture.”
True to his calling, Dr Bhatikar’s manifesto for Panaji promises proactive measures for eradication of malaria, special attention to Ribandar with respect to health schemes and development of water sports and other fitness facilities.
“I will give personal attention to setting up of an aquatic therapy centre at Panaji for special children and to cater to the obese and diabetics,” Bhatikar stated.
He launched heavy criticism on the BJP for its failure to improve and expand the health sector in Goa. Referring to the popular Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana, Bhatikar stated, “Equality is our right. DDSSY facility has been given only at selective hospitals and to only a few handful of people. This will not help in expanding the health sector, which is a basic right.”
The manifesto also assures creation of a separate bus stand for interstate buses, tourist information centre at Panaji bus-stand, beggar-free city, electric crematorium, NGPDA market at Mala and stress on solar energy.
Promising a casino-free Panaji, Bhatikar stated, “Licenses of casinos in River Mandovi and in five star hotels in and around Panaji will be cancelled to reduce traffic jams while also combating other social evils.”
PANAJI: GSM’s Panaji candidate Dr Bhatikar targeted the BJP and warned, “Vote for BJP and you will get old Congress faces back.”
He questioned BJP’s plea to the people seeking a comfortable majority. “In 2012, BJP had 21 seats and with MGP, the number was 24. Was it not comfortable enough? The problem with BJP was that its leaders had no passion,” Bhatikar stated.
GSM’s Sameer Kakodkar admitted that he belonged to the traditional vote bank of the BJP owing to lack of options. He said, “We want principled leaders as candidates. I have been voting for BJP but I grew disillusioned over the years. Sadly, I had no option but have one now. We don’t want double speak.”
