GSPCB to probe mixed waste being dumped at land filling: Cabral

Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Saturday said the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will examine the issues raised by some citizens that mixed waste from Sonsodo under the guise of inert is being dumped at old market for land filling.

Cabral, however, reminded the citizens that the people of Margao should introspect how come mixed waste find its way at Sonsodo when they are supposed to hand over segregated waste.

He was speaking to the media at the Damodar College complex on the occasion of the launching of mega e-waste collection drive by the Lions International.

“The GSPCB will examine the issues raised by the citizens on dumping of waste from Sonsodo at old market,” he said.

Earlier, addressing the students at the launching of the e-waste collection exercise initiated by Lions International, Cabral said the exercise can emerge a big success if each of the 5,000 students studying at the complex targets minimum houses  in their locality.

He said the e-waste and garbage problem can be resolved if all the citizens take the pledge to take care of his own waste.
