MARGAO
Hosts Varca SC prevailed over Sporting Club of Davorlim via tiebreaker 5-3 to move into the quaterfinals of the Village Panchayat Cup 2023, organised by Varca Sports Club, at Varca football ground, on Saturday. At half-time, the match was goalless.
In the second half, Selwyn Miranda opened the account for Davorlim through a freekick, giving no chance to Muhmad Shaikh under the bar. Varca soon equalised through Aaron Rodrigues, who scored with a neat placement past keeper Francisco Colaco. The match ended 1-1 and had to be decided by a tiebreaker. For Varca, Joylan Cardozo, Aaron Rodrigues, Salim Sadekar and Muhamed scored from the spot while Selwyn Miranda and Jordan Miranda netted for Sporting Club of Davorlim.
Clayton Luis was declared the Man of the match. Soccoro Coutinho, former Dempo SC coach, was the chief guest and Filomeno L Costa, police inspector, Traffic Cell, Colva, was the guest of honour.
U-14 football: Loyola HS, Mount Mary win
Loyola HS Margao had to sweat it out to beat Fr Agnel Ashram Verna 2-1 in the Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa Under-14 Inter School Football Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at The Base, Seraulim.
Loyola scored through Evan Ferrao and Mitson Barbosa. Snedden Vaz reduced the margin for Fr Agnel Ashram. In other boys' matches, Mount Mary HS Chinchinim defeated Mae Dos Pobres HS Nuvem 2-0. Godfrey Simoes and Crevon Rebello scored for Mount Mary.
Infant Jesus Colva defeated St Thomas HS Cansaulim 3-2. Infant Jesus scored through Vijay Gudimani (brace) and Russel Fernandes. Samroy D'Souza scored a goal and another self-goal helped St Thomas Cansaulim reduce the margin. Vidya Vikas Margao defeated St Pius Orlim 3-2 while Mount Mary H.S Chinchinim defeated St Anthony's Majorda 3-1.
Also, St Aloysius Benaulim defeated St Thomas Cansaulim 1-0. In the girls' category, Manovikas HS Margao defeated St Anthony's Majorda 4-0. Manovikas scored through Shanaya George's brace, while Valusha and Angel were the other scorers. Perpetual Succour Navelim thrashed Presentation Convent HS 5-0. Perpetual scored through Venicia Carvalho (brace), Vania Godinho and Clea Colaco. A self-goal helped Pepertual score their fifth goal.
