Pilar Fathers - Sports for Youth Development, Sonshi, Honda, Sattari, will organise the 11th Pioneer Trophy, in honour of Rev Fr Bento Martins, the founder of the Society of Pilar.
The tournament will be an all-Goa women's 6-a-side hockey tournament on Sunday, January 15 (from 9 am-5 pm) at the hockey astroturf, Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa. The tournament will be held in collaboration with Goans Hockey, the governing body of hockey in Goa.
The tournament is supported by a local Mapusa-based hockey club, Young Sports HC. The added attraction is an exhibition match at 10 am between teams of veteran Goan women hockey players.
Perpetual Succour, OL Health move into semis
Perpetual Succour Convent HS, Navelim prevailed over Bethany Convent HS, St Jose de Areal 4-2 via the tiebreaker to move into the semifinals of the U-17 St Joseph Vaz Soccer tournament organised by Mount Mary's High School, Chinchinim at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Friday.
Bethany Convent scored through Sam Moura in the 15th minute before Flanoy Gomes equalised in the last minute for Perpetual Succour Convent. In the tiebreaker, Perpetual Succour Convent netted through Anslam Vaz, Fravino Pires and Joshua Correia while only Sam Moura converted for Bethany Convent.
In other matches, Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim beat St Thomas HS Cansaulim 4-2 via the tiebreaker after a goalless match. Our Lady of Health HS scored through Nash Fernandes, Sharmad Kurade, Ziban Shaikh and Warren Dias, while for St Thomas Cansaulim, Preston Colaco and Rio Rodrigues scored.
Hosts Mount Mary HS Chinchinim beat Assmpta Convent HS Sarzora 3-1. Mount Mary scored through Om Raju Raikar in the 9th minute while Sohil Shaikh scored the second in the 14th minute. Assumpta Convent scored through Joshua Leitao in the 29th minute.
Meanwhile, Rosary HS Navelim beat St Joseph Educational Institute, Chandor 3-1. Rosary scored through Ajay Talwar in the 4th and 11th minutes and Deryl Rebello scored in the 15th minute. St Joseph pulled a goal back through Irun Ailurio in the 16th minute. All the winners moved into the semifinals.
Monserrate Youth volleyball tourney
Monserrate Youth of Manora will clash with Cacra Sports Club, St Cruz in the inaugural match of Monserrate Youth of Manora volleyball tournament on January 14. Goa Police, Lairaee FC, Sattari, Om Shiv Shamboo, Merces, United Boys Colony, Sattari, Ritvik 7 Pernem and KK Boys, Santa Cruz are vying for the top honours. The final is slated for January 22. Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 will be awarded to the winners and runners-up respectively while both the semifinalists will pocket Rs 5,000 each.
