MAPUSA
After successfully illuminating several junctions in Mapusa, the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has decided to take up the illumination project in two more municipal areas in the State.
The urban development agency has also decided to develop four football grounds in Mapusa. Acting on the proposals received from the two civic bodies, GSUDA decided to illuminate key road junctions in Bicholim and Valpoi municipality by replicating the Mapusa model.
The decisions were taken during a recent board meeting of GSUDA.
“We have given a green signal to the proposal to illuminate major junctions in the two councils. The engineers from the respective municipalities will draw up the plan and prepare the estimates,” said Sandip Falari, Vice Chairman of GSUDA.
The plan is to erect two to three illumination poles in each of the wards in the two civic bodies. Bicholim Municipal Council has 13 wards while Valpoi Municipal Council has 11. In another decision, GSUDA has appointed a consultant to construct four football grounds in Mapusa.
As per the plans, GSUDA will take up development of football grounds of St Xavier’s, DMC and Saraswat colleges and in Cunchelim.
“The consultant will first draw up the plans and then prepare a cost estimate for each ground as per the requirement of the colleges concerned,” Falari said.
The football grounds will be developed under the Fair Recreational Activity and Non-Competitive Involvement in Sports (FRANCIS) Urban Connect Scheme.
The project involves up-gradation of the existing football grounds as per the standard specifications.
GSUDA has decided to hold periodical review meetings on all on-going works.
