MAPUSA: In a bid to refurbish public toilets in Mapusa, the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will soon take up re-construction of municipal toilets at various places in Mapusa Municipal Council under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Three of the toilets are located in Khorlim and one at Ansabhatt in Mapusa.
The condition of most of the toilets is in bad state and has been lying in dilapidated condition for quite some time.
“In the present condition, these toilets are totally unusable and will have to be completely overhauled. The repair of the toilets is the need of the hour as it will help a lot of people living in the area,” said GSUDA Vice Chairman Sandip Falari.
The work to repair the four toilets has been estimated to cost around Rs 32.17 lakh.
“GSUDA has issued a tender for the work a couple of day’s back which will be processed and accordingly work order will be issued,” Falari said.
Councilor Tushar Tople said that the public toilet in Ansabhatt in his ward has been rendered unusable for many years now.
“People from the area have to either go to the Sulabh toilet at the bus stand or the public toilet near the police station. I have sent several requests to the council and GSUDA to repair the toilet,” Tople said.
In the meanwhile, the Mapusa civic body has once again called for pay parking tenders in the municipal market.
The lane in front of the municipal market entrance and the lane opposite the Shakuntala statue have been earmarked for pay parking.
A council resolution has also been taken some months back to convert the two lanes into pay parking.
The basic intention to convert the two lanes into pay parking was to restore traffic discipline inside the market.
An earlier attempt to tender the area into pay parking fizzled off due to opposition from vendors in the lane inside the market.
