About 20 residents gathered at Shivsorem and complained to the ore transportation contractor that guidelines were not followed properly by the trucks while transporting the iron ore.
Quepem PSI Harish Raut Dessai and PSI Viju Dessai along with few police constables also went to the spot. Sanguem MLA Gaonkar also went to the site and the protesters put forth their views before him.
Former Rivona sarpanch Aryakumar Zambaulikar said the contractors and the trucks carrying ore should strictly follow guidelines laid for safe ore transportation.
A resident, Telus Dias, said the residents were being kept kept in the dark about ore transportation.
“Public safety is not being giving importance while transporting ore,” Dias added.
A youth, Gajanan Raikar, complained that mining contractors did not clean the roads and this had led to dust pollution.
Raikar also added that traffic congestion had become a daily affair.
