MARGAO
While five members of the village panchayat led by former Sarpanch Milagres Gonsalves have moved the no confidence motion on grounds that the Sarpanch has not been taking the members into confidence, Sarpanch Sonia has attributed the move to dislodge her from office to her decision asking Milagres to seek NOC for his open dance floor project from the neighboring Macazana Panchayat.
Besides Milagres, the no trust motion against Sonia has been signed by Vincie Peixotto, Maura D’Costa, Balu Nistani and Agnelo Crasto on grounds that the sarpanch has not been taking the panchayat members into confidence.
Addressing the media, Milagres along with two other signatories, Agnelo and Balu said they had planned to dislodge the Sarpanch long ago, but they had kept their decision on hold in view of the Assembly elections. “There’s no link between my dance floor proposal and the no trust motion”, Milagres asserted.
‘How can the Sarpanch raise the question of jurisdiction on grounds that that the survey no of the property in question is situated in Macazana village when the two areas fall within the Guirdolim village Panchayat”, Milagres questioned.
Sonia, however, remains unfazed. In a letter dashed off to the Salcete Block Development Office , she drew attention of the BDO to the application received from Milagres to establish a dance floor, contending that the property where he intends to set up the dance floor is surveyed under No 150/1of the village of Macazana. Sarpanch Sonia sought advise from the Salcete BDO to clarify on the jurisdiction of the property in question so that the panchayat will not find itself in a legal position before the Guirdolim public or the Macazana panchayat.
