Guirim gives fillip to development work

Development and streamlining of garbage collection dominated the Guirim gram sabha on Sunday.
Guirim Sarpanch Fondu Naik said the panchayat has taken up road-widening and other development works.
“The road-widening work from Guirim chapel to the Guirim church has been tendered at Rs 1.28 crore and work on the road will start very soon,” Naik informed.
He further said that road widening work from Guirim Cross to Porculi lake has also been taken up. Taking forward the development agenda, the panchayat has also decided to renovate the pond near Hotel Green Park where Ganesh Visarjan is annually held, the sarpanch further informed.
Some gram sabha members appealed to the sarpanch to repair the entire stretch of the Arradi road, which has been done in parts.
The panchayat has decided to take a series of steps in an effort to streamline garbage collection in Guirim. The panchayat has decided to erect signboards at various places and also place garbage bins at strategic locations.
A member questioned the sarpanch for denying information sought by him under the RTI Act, even as the one month period had passed. The sarpanch said that he was ready to supply the required info to the member, provided he deposited Rs 1,800 in the panchayat.
