Gujarat trio posing as sadhus cheats Pernem man of Rs 1.2 lakh, arrested

Three persons from Gujarat have been arrested by Mopa Police on charges of cheating a 59-year-old man from Torxem-Pernem of cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs 1.2 lakh after posing as sadhus.
According to police reports, the three accused, Narunath Madari (39), Deepakant Madari (26) and Jannath Madari (26), all from Gandhinagar, on June 8 had cheated the victim, Suryakant Mukund Veer from Torse-Pernem, after posing as sadhus and had fled away with his gold chain, a gold ring, and Rs 2,600 in cash, all worth about Rs 1.20 lakh.
Acting on a complaint, a case was registered at the Mopa Airport police station. During the investigation, the police tracked the accused using CCTV footage, vehicle tracing, and technical analysis. It was revealed that the accused had travelled to Maharashtra in a car registered in Gujarat.
With the assistance of the Dhule district police on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border, the police team apprehended the three suspects and recovered the gold chain and ring from them. The three accused were brought to Goa on transit remand and formally arrested on June 14.
The accused have been remanded to police custody for three days.
PSI Sagar Vazarkar is conducting further investigations under the supervision of Mopa Airport Police Inspector Ninad Deolkar and Pernem Sub-Divisional Police Officer Salim Shaikh, and the guidance of North Goa Superintendent of Police Harishchandra Madkaikar.
