PANAJI: AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday gave the Goa government until July 31 to address and resolve issues related to high electricity bills and frequent power outages, warning that the party would launch statewide protests if consumers are not provided relief by the deadline.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Kejriwal said rising electricity bills and frequent power cuts had become the biggest concerns of Goans.
"We are placing three specific demands before the government. First, 300 units of electricity should be provided free to every household. Second, all domestic electricity arrears up to June 15 should be waived off. Third, Goa should get uninterrupted 24-hour power supply," he said.
Kejriwal claimed that if the measures are implemented, nearly 76 per cent of Goan families would receive zero electricity bills and get relief from outstanding dues.
He cited figures presented in the Assembly, alleging that Goa witnessed 19,000 power cuts between January 2024 and May 2025, while 2,133 power cuts were recorded between January and March 2026.
Claiming the proposal was financially viable, Kejriwal said the free electricity scheme would cost the state around Rs 345 crore, which he said was less than one per cent of Goa's budget of over Rs 30,000 crore.
"We have shown in Delhi and Punjab that free electricity, waiver of arrears and reliable power supply are possible. If the Goa government needs assistance in implementing these measures, we are ready to help," he said.
Warning of protests, Kejriwal said, "This should be implemented by July 31. If it is not done, the Aam Aadmi Party will hit the streets and agitate to bring relief to the people of Goa."
