Had more numbers: Vijai justifies his claim to chair

MARGAO
Asserting there’s no threat to the stability of the Margao Municipal Council over the question of chairperson’s post, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has said those raising the leadership issue should understand that they have won the election against the BJP despite canvassing by senior ruling leaders including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other ministers.

“The broad contours of the Margao Civic Alliance were framed by me and Digambar. Those who had contested on the panels had never then raised the issue of chairperson’s post. They only wanted to win the elections then and now they are giving opinions over the chairperson’s post. This is not correct. Entire Goa is watching since we have won against the BJP. If these people decide to go with the very people who had gone all out to defeat them, this will amount to betrayal”, Sardesai said.

While justifying his decision to stake claim for the chairperson’s post given his panel had more numbers over Kamat’s panel, Sardesai, however added “this time, we have come out with a formulae to rotate the post equally amongst the alliance partners every 15 months.
