Halankar defends sale of comunidade land for private university amid opposition

PANAJI

Tivim MLA and Minister Nilkant Halankar has come out in support of sale of comunidade land for setting up a private university at Thivim.

He pointed out that the land was designated as an educational zone in a regional plan 2011 and there is no question of no development zone.

Halankar urged the Comunidade to hand over the land peacefully.

He assured that a certain number of seats would be reserved for Goans.

Godfrey D'Lima, a Gaunkar of Tivim comunidade, strongly opposed the sale, calling it illegal. He argued that the land was originally intended for agricultural use and warned of environmental harm, including the destruction of green cover and potential landslides. D'Lima also expressed concerns about the project’s impact on Tivim’s infrastructure and cultural identity.
