The inferno which engulfed the Herald printing press at Verna Industrial Estate was still simmering on Friday with three water tankers working round the clock to douse off the fire.
According to Fire Station Officer-in-charge of Verna and Margao fire stations Gil Souza, the smoke was still billowing and could very well go on till midnight.
Stating that the loss could be around Rs 10 crore, Souza said a huge quantity of paper rollers was reduced to ashes, thus making their task to control the fire even more difficult.
Asked what could had been the reason for the fire breaking out, Souza said a halogen bulb which had burst could have sparked off the fire.
“This information was given by workers of the printing press,” Souza told The Goan.
