Admitting that the Chandel-Hasapur bridge which was constructed four decades ago was old and dilapidated, Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar said the bridge would be reconstructed.
“The government has sought a report on this bridge, and after the report is being submitted, the bridge will be reconstructed,” said Arlekar, while speaking to reporters.
“I will be inspecting the bridge along with officers and the process to reconstruct the bridge will begin soon after the monsoon.”
Chandel-Hasapur Sarpanch Tulshidas Gawas had appealed to the government to either repair the bridge or to construct a new one, as the bridge had become old and dangerous.
“The bridge was used to carry heavy machinery in construction work at the Manohar International Airport. Heavy vehicles have further weakened the four-decade old bridge,” feared the sarpanch.
Taking note of these concerns, Arlekar had raised the issue in the ongoing Assembly.
