In response to the recent directive from the High Court of Bombay at Goa, the Anjuna panchayat will begin a comprehensive survey of illegal structures within its jurisdiction.
The announcement was made during a special Gram Sabha meeting held on Wednesday, where villagers were urged to cooperate with the process.
Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar informed attendees that the survey will commence within the next two days and that a detailed report will be submitted to the court.
The survey will cover illegal constructions along roadsides, highways and major roads, as well as structures built on panchayat land, paddy fields, government and comunidade property, and tenanted land “ many of which are reportedly being used for commercial purposes without proper authorisation.
The sarpanch urged residents whose structures fall within the affected areas to cooperate and voluntarily remove them in compliance with the High Court’s order.
During the meeting, villagers expressed concerns about road width and the potential impact on local residents, particularly fishermen.
They suggested that the panchayat write to the government seeking clarity on the official road dimensions.
Addressing the issue, panchayat member Surendra Govekar clarified that the regional plan has already been notified and includes specifications of all road widths.
He emphasised that there are currently no plans for road widening, and the survey will only identify illegal structures that fall within the designated widening zones.
Govekar also informed the gathering that a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister was held recently to address related concerns.
