HC notices to units discharging toxic waste water in Sattari

The Bombay High Court at Goa on Friday issued notices to the state government as well as the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) over the failure to act against three polluting industrial units unlawfully discharging toxic waste water causing loss and damage to a farmer’s field and plantation at Pissurlem in Sattari.

The GSPCB has been directed to conduct an inspection and submit its report to the court on June 7.   
The farmer Manohar Mahadev Parab represented by Adv Aires Rodrigues today submitted before the High Court that the authorities despite various complaints had failed to act against the three polluting industrial units at the Pissurlem Industrial Estate located adjacent to his property where he was carrying out paddy cultivation and other plantation.   
Manohar Parab has in his petition submitted before the High Court that the three companies M/s Esteem Industries Pvt Ltd, M/S Vic Industries Pvt Ltd and Ambey Metallic Ltd have been in violation of law discharging toxic and untreated waste water in the nullah which is entering his field and rendering great loss as he is unable to carrying out any cultivation.

Collector directs WISL to act within 24 hours

The Collector’s directives came after Additional Collector-II and CEO South Goa District Disaster Management Authority Johnson Fernandes submitted a report stating that there was no person from WISL who could rnbe held accountable rnat this stage
