HC orders Mapusa footpaths to be completed at earliest

PANAJI

The State government has informed the Bombay High Court at Goa that they have tendered the work for the construction of footpaths from the Bodgeshwar temple up to the Gandhi Chowk -- the construction of which was sought via a petition filed before the High Court by and NGO.

Following the assurance, the High Court disposed of the plea.

“The work from Parra to Bodgeshwar temple was already completed; what remained to be done was from Bodgeshwar to Gandhi circle. Today we produced a work order issued by the PWD for the construction of the footpath. Based on that, the HC has disposed of this petition” Advocate General Devidas Pangam said.

With regard to the construction of footpaths on the four roads leading to and from the Mapusa clock tower (Court junction), the High Court has directed that the respective authorities will not claim the excuse of the Code of Conduct for delays in executing the work.

“As far as construction from the clock tower to the district hospital is concerned, the municipality is carrying out the work. The municipality has issued a time-bound direction, and the HC has said that insofar as this work is concerned, the Code of Conduct and all other work will not come in the way, and the work will have to be completed expeditiously, and the tender process will continue,” Pangam said.

“Similar is the direction as far as the work from the clock tower to the taxi stand is concerned; there also the HC has expressed that nothing will come in the way of processing this project by the PWD. The Code of Conduct will not come in the way of this construction, and that matter has been kept in May now,” he added.
