HC postpones hearing on formation of new noise monitoring panel

PANAJI
The High Court of Bombay at Goa has postponed the hearing on the formation of the new Noise Monitoring Committee due to a lack of consensus on the selection of two private members. The matter is now likely to come up for hearing on Wednesday.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, both the petitioners and respondents including the government, failed to reach an agreement on the names of the two private members for the five-member committee. As a result, the court adjourned the matter.

The High Court is monitoring noise pollution issues, particularly in Anjuna in response to a PIL against establishments violating the noise pollution rules.

Earlier, the court had directed the formation of a committee to ensure noise monitoring systems are implemented at these establishments. The system is expected to provide real-time data to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), the tourism department and the police, while also facilitating stricter enforcement of regulations.

The High Court previously instructed authorities to enforce noise pollution norms strictly, including the confiscation and sealing of equipment from establishments found in violation.
