The Public Works Department (PWD) stepped in to resolve the water woes of residents around the ‘Hawaii’ beach area of Dona Paula with equitable distribution to areas serviced by the reservoir at Nagalli Hills.
Residents of the area had been complaining for the last several days that they were not getting water through the PWD supply pipes.
PWD sources said that since the ‘Hawaii’ beach area is at the tail-end of the supply chain from the reservoir at Nagalli Hills, making sure they get water is becoming challenging, and they are working to resolve it permanently.
Meanwhile, at least half a dozen other locales in Taleigao”at Nagalli itself, Possum Bhat, Odxel, and near the market”similarly face water shortages on a regular basis.
PWD officials said that a comprehensive blueprint to resolve these issues is being worked out but may take several months to implement.
Taleigao has seen unprecedented real estate development over the last decade and more, with multiple housing complexes having mushroomed all over the constituency.
“Some of these high-rise complexes have dwelling units (flats) upwards of 150-200. This mindless and unplanned development is bound to throw up a water supply challenge,” said social activist and AAP leader Cecille Rodrigues.
A PWD official, meanwhile, said that not all the new multi-apartment housing complexes have been given connections, and many of them get their supply through private tanker services.
