Expressing his shock at the mix-up of bodies at the mortuary of the State’s premier Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo on Sunday said he appreciated the “strong” and “very good” action taken by the health minister in the matter.

“It was shocked. I could not believe it when the brother of the deceased called and told me that when they went to claim the body they could not find it,” said Ticlo, who is out of station and is expected to be in Goa on Monday.

The Aldona MLA said

that after the call he immediately contacted the dean

of the GMC and then called the health minister Vishwajeet Rane to look into the matter.

“It was a complete disaster. This should have never happened. There are bodies kept in the mortuary for months. They should have verified the body before disposing it off. How could they make such a glaring goof-up?” an anguished Ticlo asked.

Side stepping a question whether the Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane should resign for the debacle, the Aldona MLA said that he appreciated the action taken by the minister.

“Our health minister Rane has taken very good and strong action on the issue. Three officials have been

immediately suspended, an FIR has also been lodged and an inquiry has been instituted. I am told the health minister has also visited the family today,” the Aldona MLA said.
