Health Minister plans to hold meeting amid rising Covid cases in neighbouring M’rashtra

PANAJI
The Health Minister on Friday stated that he plans to have a meeting with the top brass of his department as well as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to chalk out a strategy for Goa in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Maharashtra.

Earlier this week, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced his government’s decision to impose stringent Covid safety protocols in place to curb the spike in cases, which is being dubbed as the ‘second wave’ of the pandemic. The possibility of a lockdown in Maharashtra was hinted at if all other measures failed.

As against this, the Goa government, which recently hosted the Carnival parade at two locations, is gearing up to organize the annual Shigmo parade at three venues in the first week of April.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister has assured that all six ongoing hospital infrastructure projects are expected to be completed between June and September 2021.

The health minister met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday to discuss the completion schedule of these projects as well as the starting of a cardiac facility at South Goa District Hospital in Margao. The meeting was also attended by Health Secretary Ravi Dhawan.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the health minister disclosed his plan to equip SGDH with all types of facilities including a cardiac facility similar to the one at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.

Talking about the rise in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, he has added that if the trend of the Covid cases continues in Maharashtra we will also have to be strict as far as Goa as a state is concerned.
