According to sources, presently over five patients are undergoing medical treatment at Valpoi Community Health Center (CHC). The cause of sickness is yet to be confirmed. Health officials along with a special team visited the village on Friday.
Sources said the villagers started complaining of sickness eight days ago. Some patients have undergone treatment with a private doctor, but the number of patients has increased in the last four days.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Valpoi health officials have intimated the higher authorities about the situation. Health Director Dr Sanjay Dalvi along with Valpoi health officer Dr Gajanan Naik, Dr Utkarsha Betodakar and a special team of doctors and staff visited the village and tried to find out the exact cause of sickness.
Nagargao Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar along with other panchayat members were also present.
The team visited house to house and tried to find out the cause behind the illness, while the PWD and health officials have collected water samples from the borewell as well as village river for testing.
Speaking to the Goan, DHS Dr Sanjay Dalvi said study is going on to find out the exact cause behind the illness in the village.
Valpoi Health officer Dr Gajanan Naik said the PWD officials are asked to provide treated water.
Vithal Gawas, a patient from the village, said he was suffering from the illness for the last eight days. "Consumption of borewell water which is supplied by the PWD could be the cause of the sickness," he said.
Another patient, Gurudas Gaonkar also echoed similar views and demanded supply of treated water instead of borewell water.
