Of 1,38,000 applications, just 26,000 get insurance cards

The scheme was launched on May 30 by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and was supposed to be implemented from August 15. The State Government has tied out with United India Insurance Company for the Scheme.
Speaking to The Goan, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar confirmed that the scheme will now be implemented from September 1.
“Till Saturday, the State Government has received 1,38,000 applications under the scheme. As three-week long monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly was on, we were busy with that. In the meantime, the company has printed 40,000 cards and sent SMS to the heads of the families. Of these 40,000 cards printed, only 26,000 families have managed to collect their cards”, informed Parsekar adding, “This would be injustice to all the others who have already registered.”
He, however, informed that when officials contacted the insurance company, it was learnt that the maximum number of insurance cards that could be generated in a day was 5,000.
“We require few more days to complete atleast this job of insurance cards. So, we have postponed the implementation of the scheme by another 15 days to September 1”, he informed.
Till now, 24 private hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme which includes those in Goa as well as from outside Goa.
“The empanelment is still going on. But with an extension of 15 days, more number of families atleast to the extent of 1 lakh will receive cards.
