Healthify, a lecture series on health, exercise and wellness began at St Joseph Vaz college on April 7 on the occasion of World Health Day.
The lecture series organised jointly by the Department of Physical Education and Sports of St Joseph Vaz College and St Joseph Vaz Institute of Education is the first of its kind and aims to motivate students to follow a healthy lifestyle, adopt scientific methods of training and to understand about disease and their prevention.
The first lecture of the series was titled ‘Healthy Lifestyle: A must for every youth' and the resource person was Clifton Fernandes, College Director of Physical Education and Sports of Nirmala Institute of Education.
The programme began with the address of Dr Maria Fonseca, Principal of St Joseph Vaz College, who emphasised on living a healthy lifestyle and congratulated the department of physical education and sports for coming up with such a unique idea.
In his lecture, Clifton Fernandes spoke on the meaning of health, dimensions of health, and importance of sleep for the youth of today. He also stressed on ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.
This was followed by an interactive session with students where in the resource person cleared doubts of students regarding various issues faced by them in day-to-day life.
Dr Elroy Pinto (College Director of Physical Education and Sports of St Joseph Vaz College), Infancio Correia (Assistant Physical Education Teacher at St Joseph Vaz Institute of Education) and Joaquim Godinho also spoke on the occasion.
